There s an easy way to fix it and you may want to give it a try.
Faucet shut off valve leaking.
Use the wrench to firmly tighten the nut but don t over tighten it.
Ignoring minor leaks can waste up to three gallons of water every day and can also lead to permanent water stains and rot under your sink.
Once tight and in place turn the valve on and test the kitchen faucet.
Then fit an adjustable wrench onto the nut of the shut off valve and turn it counter clockwise at 1 8 to 1 4 turn at a time.
Loosen the bonnet nut on the leaky shut off valve with an adjustable wrench.
Shut off the water at the main shutoff valve.
Reassemble the shutoff valve turn the main house valve back on and check for leaks.
Wrap teflon packing around the spindle then hand tighten the bonnet nut back into place.
Close the main water supply to the leaky valve.
There should be no leaks and all should be good.
Pull the nut back to expose the valve s threaded spindle.
Step 2 prepare to take it apart.
However calling a plumber can be expensive.
Shut off the circuit breakers to an electric water heater.
This will tighten the packing nut and may stop the drip.
Put a plastic tub under the leaking valve to reduce the water spillage on the floor while you work.
The shut off valve under a sink can go unattended for years without giving any problems but once it starts leaking it can lead to a mess quickly.
Avoid gumming up the inside of the shutoff valve.
Turn on all the faucets and flush all the toilets associated with the main shutoff valve to empty the pipes of water.
Required tools for this project.
Don t use any pipe dope or plastic tape on the valve stem s threads.
Then disconnect the supply tube from the shutoff valve.
Attach the water line from the faucet to the water supply shut off valve using plumbers tape.
If the valve leak persists turn off the main water shutoff valve then disconnect the valve and replace it.
If your water supply valve is leaking you may not need to replace it.
Turn the water supply valve under the sink off.

Step 3 remove the screw in the center of the shutoff valve handle using a screwdriver.
Then open a faucet on the lowest level of your house and another faucet on an upper level to drain the pipes.
These inexpensive little valves rarely get used and when they do sometimes they leak.
Place a bucket or a thick towel on the floor under the leaky valve just in case some residual water leaks out during work.
